Thought provoking ideas!

  • Conservation

  • Management of green spaces: we need an identified 'green belt' that will ensure our access to the countryside.

  • Tree Warden: poor bloke at SCDC admits he is 'one voice, by which he means he has no real power or influence and can be over-ridden by sectional interests.

  • Wildlife Audits – survey work – birds, flowers, trees/hedges, ponds, rivers, mammals, insects etc – excellent social interaction project

  • Pond restoration

  • Hedgerow Management – Suffolk Hedgerow survey:

Whilst most hedgerow surveys are undertaken under the auspices of the parish council, they can be undertaken by any group within the parish and the Women’s Institute is keen on helping in those areas where no survey has taken place (ideally any project should be a partnership, which includes the parish council).

It is vital to remember that all hedgerow surveys ultimately depend on the co-operation of landowners, many of whom are sensitive about surveyors entering their land, although recently several have become actively involved in the survey as team members.

The Suffolk Hedgerow Group will provide local survey co-ordinator and surveyors with everything they need to undertake the survey, including practical training.

If you would like to find out more about the Suffolk Hedgerow Survey and how you can help by becoming a surveyor or co-ordinator please contact Guy Ackers on 01394 383264 or email This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it .
