Plan

The government says that each community should develop its own Master Plan - that's just what we are doing - with your help. Email your suggestions to info@felixstoweradio.co.uk

  • Tomline Transit  ( 1 items )
A plan to use the existing railway system to serve Felixstowe.
  • Parish  ( 6 items )
Local community planning was pioneered by Rural Community Councils or ACREs to help rural communities develop their own vision of the future. The benefits and value of this process are now widely recognised under the banner of Parish Plans.

Parish Plans are prepared and published by communities as a way for all members of a village to give their views on the topics that they feel are important to them.

    Benefits
    A Parish Plan will
    • Recognize which features and local characteristics people value
      - What needs protecting?
    • Identify local problems and opportunities
      - What needs changing or improving?
    • State how the community wants to develop over the coming years
      - What needs to be created or introduced?
    • Highlight actions to achieve this vision
      - What and who needs to take action to achieve our vision?

    • “It’s an opportunity to talk about what is important to us.”

The final Plan with its Actions is a powerful demonstration of community needs, opinions and involvement. It will support discussion with councils and service providers and link the community vision to local and regional plans and strategies.

The activity of producing a parish plan energises and mobilizes people to get involved with their community.

“It’s about what local people think. More than listening but getting them involved in
    ideas and planning.”

Felixstowe is managed, in effect, by a parish council. Therefore it should have a parish plan. If you'd like to make a contribution to that plan, let us know.

  • Tourism  ( 3 items )

Felixstowe is a town in decay. Its tourist facilities have not had any significant investment in decades. There is a lack of good hotel accommodation, and little to do when the tourist does arrive.

  • Transport  ( 2 items )

We need radical solutions to transport.

  • Economy  ( 1 items )
What is needed to ensure a stable economy
  • Housing  ( 1 items )

What are the housing needs in Felixstowe.

  • Education  ( 14 items )
    Schools, colleges, training facilities
  • Suggestions  ( 13 items )

Each local community is supposed to have a local plan that has been developed by people living in that community.

The Local Strategic Partnership are following a government initiative to set up community forums to put forward plans for each local community - it's supposed to work at parish level, with each having a forum including at least two local councillors. This idea has been in place for some time (since April 2006).

In Felixstowe it may be possible to start our own forum - and then to invite local councillors to join us - rather than wait for the council to set one up, which may not happen. Perhaps we'd be able to use the Town Hall or the Broadway Centre to hold meetings, and bring together anyone interested to create a plan for Felixstowe. We need the council to respond.

At Felixstowe Radio we are concerned about the future of the town, and we are not alone. There is a Felixstowe Futures Forum, that has a web site: www.felixstowefuture.com. Consultants David Lock & Associates are preparing another report, but the people of Felixstowe don't seem to be involved in such discussions.

We took a camera around the town, to produce a very short video at Coastal Decay and Helen Lakey has written an excellent set of ideas at Felixstowe: The Spa of the East that add to our list of ideas (submitted to Felixstowe Future, but never ackowledged) at Master Plan for Felixstowe

Something needs to be done, but not in closed meetings by folk who have little to do with the town.

We'd welcome your suggestions - and have created an area at this site where we can, together, start to build a plan of our own.
